Read John 3:16-21
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it . . . The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world” (Jn. 1:4-5, 9).
“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness” (Jn. 12:46).
Jesus, the Light, was sent by the Father into the darkness that oppresses this world He created. The world mankind messed up. He came because the Father loved and wanted to save you and me from the tyranny of the darkness and prison of death. The prison we didn’t even know we were in until the Light shone and illuminated the dark corners of ignorance and sin.
But Light shone on the truth of our depravity and provided a way out for anyone who will but look and see.
This is Jesus, the Light of the World. The center candle of the Advent wreath burns. It burns throughout our Christmas Eve day and reminds us of the One whose coming enlightened mankind, pointed out the truth of our need. Those who choose to see will have forever life with the One True God.
All who let the Light of Jesus Christ shine into the darkest, most desperate and secret corners of their need will be free to live, fully and forever.
This is why Christmas. Jesus Christ, the reason for Christmas candles, the Light of the World.
