Read Joshua 1:1-9
We all have something that we enjoy doing. For some, it is watching sports, others it is gardening, some people like to knit. Nonetheless, whatever our passion, we are ready to call on stats and techniques for how to accomplish said task. When someone enjoys something, it is evident in all aspects of their life.
A passion for God is no different and can be seen throughout a believer’s life. In the same way that we are passionate about a TV show or a certain athletic team we have to invest time into knowing God’s word. Joshua 1:8 is a wonderful verse to memorize as it says “keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful”.
The Bible is the manual to life and provides the instructions needed to be prosperous and successful. While this could be misunderstood as prosperity gospel, the Bible provides instructions on much more then how to be financially stable. Rather, God looks deeper into the life of a believer and provides maturity, wisdom and understanding. God’s word is a tool that can be used to point the world to Jesus. Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart”.
What is holding you back from reading the Bible more consistently, meditating on it, memorizing it, and allowing it to penetrate deep into your soul? Our world is designed to grab our attention, to ask us to waste time watching TV or go to another event. What is holding you back from spending more time in God’s word?
Challenge yourself today to pick a verse and memorize it. We have no problem firing off stats from the 2002 Ohio State football team or how to cook a certain dish but can’t recall more than a couple of verses from the Bible. Challenge yourself today and walk the path toward success and prosperity.
