Read Romans 1:5-6
Life change is an invitation away.
How crazy is that? Someone’s life can be completely transformed in a moment, simply because they heard about life that God has to offer through them His grace and kindness!
This life change moment happened for me was when I was in the seventh grade. At this point in my life, I had a lot of anger toward the people that were closest to me and at a god I wasn’t even sure existed. I grew up hearing all about God and how Jesus died for my sins, but that’s all it ever was to me. God was something I knew about, but never a person that I personally knew.
In 2009, I was invited to the Kalahari Retreat. I had high hopes of staying up late, getting to ride on huge water slides, and being with all of my friends! Don’t get me wrong, I got to do all of the above. However, I walked away from that weekend with much more than fun memories. On that weekend, I walked away with an invitation to start a relationship with the One True God.
The One who created me.
The One who chose me.
The One who died for me.
The One who defeated sin and death for me.
The One who desires to use me to take His Kingdom to other lost people.
That weekend, my life was changed by one simple invitation.
This life change invitation is more than just words, but it requires action. The first action is choosing to accept it as a gift and the second is to share this gift with others. Paul mentions this gift in Romans 1:5-6: “Through him we received both the generous gift of his life and the urgent task of passing it on to others who receive it by entering into obedient trust in Jesus. You are who you are through this gift and call of Jesus Christ!”
In these verses, Paul teaches us that we were given a generous gift. This is a gift that offers an abundant life, genuine love, and endless victory over sin. It’s a gift that is far too great to be kept to ourselves, which is why Paul continues to say that we have been given the urgent task of inviting others to accept that same gift!
As Welcome Weekend approaches, who is it in your life that has yet to hear about this life change invitation? Who is God prodding you to share this gift with? What is it that’s holding you back from sharing this gift with the people in your life that are lacking hope?
Take some time today to pray for those people who came to mind. Ask God to give you an opportunity to extend an invitation to them and for boldness when that opportunity arises!
