Read Luke 2:8-10
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them…”
God brought both shepherds and magi to visit Jesus when He was young. Magi and shepherds were very different. The magi were probably respected, important, rich people in their culture. Meanwhile, people probably avoided the poor shepherds.
But God announced Jesus’ birth to both groups. Maybe you know it, but God really loves every person no matter how old or cool they are, where they come from, or how smart they seem. God wants all people to know and experience His love that he showed through Jesus.
There are shepherds in your community as well…Probably not the kind standing in a field in the countryside…Not those with staff and a knapsack. No, the shepherds in your community are those that people ignore, avoid, and often mistreat. God loves them and wants them to experience His love and to celebrate Jesus.
As you identify the “shepherds” in your community, think about how you might be able to give them joy this Christmas.
Give Joy Idea:
Greet a “shepherd” in your community with a smile and purchase a gift card to share joy with them.
