“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and this all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.’” Matthew 22:37-38
“I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you…all people on earth will be blessed through you.” That is what God had promised Abraham in our story yesterday, but then it looked like He had changed his mind. However, God had made a PROMISE, and when God makes a promise He keeps it!
God knew how much Abraham loved Isaac. He was his only son with his wife Sarah. Like most parents, he loved him more than life itself. BUT, did Abraham love Isaac more than he loved GOD? That was the question. Abraham knew God. He had spent many years getting to KNOW God, talking to Him, praying to Him. Because of that, he also knew that God loved him AND Isaac. Abraham would just need to trust and obey. Abraham knew that God would protect Isaac from harm. And he did by supplying a sacrificial lamb in Isaac’s place. After all, a promise is a promise!
Have you ever been asked to donate something to a charity? Maybe a food or toy drive at school or church. Did you pick out your broken toys or nearly outdated food items that you yourself would never eat? Or did you choose nice shiny things that other kids might really like? Which one do you think God would want you to donate?
