February 4 – Gospel Readthrough – Mark 7

Read Mark 7:1-37

You can overcome evil with good.

Or not.

You choose.

Millions of people have now watched a 2018 YouTube clip超訳 You raise me up(Martin Harkens) of a baker who takes to the streets of Holland, places down his hat and sings “You Raise Me Up.” What came out of his heart was an uplifting song about Jesus that is noble, pure and admirable. (See Phil 4:8). It raises your level of behavior, your thoughts and spirits.

“I am strong when I am on your shoulders.”

By contrast, what comes out of a person is what also can make them unclean. What comes out of a person can pollute. It is not good. It can lower your level of behavior, your thoughts and spirits.

So what comes out of you can be noble, pure and admirable. Or it also can pollute. This is your choice.

To pollute means to make things unfit for living, especially by the addition of waste matter. It means to contaminate or to make unclean. Jesus talked about this in Mark 7:15 and 20.

We all have a choice of what we think about, listen to, watch and contemplate. What do you allow into your mind? Is it noble and pure?

Read the words of Jesus in Mark 7:21 and 22:

“For it is from within, out of men’s hearts come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.”

That is pollution.

Evil thoughts ➡️ what is not in harmony with God.

This could include what you look at, read and where your mind wanders.

“Don’t give in to Satan’s temptations, and don’t be content to let your mind wander in places it shouldn’t. Instead, turn to Jesus Christ and commit your life to Him.” – Billy Graham

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”  Romans 12:21

To overcome evil with good is a daily lifestyle!

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thess 5:16

When evil thoughts come into your mind, you can divert them. Make this a lifestyle! Focus on what is noble, pure, admirable and right. We are all tempted – what do you do with it? What comes out of your heart daily?

You have a choice.

You can lift somebody up with your actions and words. Do it in the name of Jesus.

“You raise me up to more than I can be.”

What comes out of your heart?

    The music is exceptional!
Just as Jesus dealt with hypocrites when He was physically here, He deals with our hypocrisy by seeking to speak to our hearts, the center of our being, including the mind, emotions, and will. Proverbs tells us to “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life,“ Proverbs 4:23.
Jesus demonstrated His compassion for a gentile woman who called out to Him to cast a demon out of her daughter.
Jesus was also in the gentile region of Tyre and Sidon when they brought to Him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment. Jesus said, “be opened.“ The man was miraculously caused to hear and to speak and the people were astonished.
Lord, speak to my heart and help me to be open to whatever You want me to think and do today.
